Jamie Ridley

Jamie Ridley joined the Australian Navy on August 29, 1994, embarking on a

dedicated career that spanned over a decade. He completed an intense 15-month

training at HMAS Cerberus, specializing as a Marine Technician.

In late 1995, Jamie was posted to HMAS Gawler, Fremantle Class Patrol Boat,

where he participated in his first operational deployment—a 12-week Asian tour.

During his tenure aboard HMAS Gawler, he primarily conducted fisheries patrols

along the northern coast of Australia.

In 1998, Jamie left HMAS Gawler for a brief period at the Darwin Naval Base

workshop. His expertise led him to be chosen for the commissioning of HMAS Jervis

Bay, a high-speed catamaran from Incat Australia, which supported United Nations

operations during the conflict in East Timor. Jamie played a crucial role in

decommissioning the vessel in 2001.

After another six months in the workshop, Jamie returned to sea service on HMAS

Geelong as a Leading Seaman and was appointed Leading Hand of the Mess. His

duties again focused on border and fisheries patrols, contributing significantly to

maritime security with over 350 boardings conducted.

After nine fulfilling years in Darwin, Jamie was posted to Canberra in 2004 with his

wife and son. During his time in Canberra, he earned a promotion to Petty Officer

before being posted to HMAS Sterling, where he helped manage the workshop for

three years.

Jamie discharged from the Navy in 2008, having enjoyed a rich and rewarding

career. He made the decision to leave the service to spend more time with his young

children, cherishing the moments with his family.
